Springtime: Supporting Your Child Through the Season
Spring has arrived, and with it comes warmer weather, longer days, and lots of opportunities for outdoor play and exploration! At Country Kids, this is one of our favourite seasons — our animals are active, the gardens are full of life, and children are excited to be outside discovering nature.
🌼 Managing Spring Allergies
With spring also comes pollen and other allergens. Here are a few ways you can support your child during this season:
-
Monitor for symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes, or a runny nose.
-
Pack a sunhat and a spare set of clothes so your child can stay comfortable throughout the day.
-
Talk to teachers about any allergies your child has so we can support them — for example, limiting exposure on high-pollen days.
We make sure our centre environment stays safe by encouraging handwashing, wiping faces when needed, and keeping indoor spaces well-ventilated.
🐑 Connecting with Nature
Spring is the perfect time for children to build a relationship with the natural world:
-
Observing baby animals helps children learn empathy and responsibility.
-
Watching flowers bloom encourages curiosity about science and life cycles.
-
Outdoor group games and messy play build social skills and teamwork.
🌞 Sun Safety and Hydration
Even in early spring, the UV index in New Zealand can be high. Please help us by:
-
Applying sunscreen before arriving at the centre each morning.
-
Packing a named water bottle so your child stays hydrated during active play.
🌱 Ideas for Home
You can extend spring learning at home by:
-
Starting a small garden or planting herbs together.
-
Collecting leaves, flowers, or seeds to bring to the centre and share with friends.
-
Talking about changes in the weather — windy, sunny, rainy — and what clothes we need to wear.
Spring is a season of growth and discovery. Together, we can make it a joyful and healthy time for your child!
